Teaching Style

I have never met anyone who cannot improve their guitar playing with well structured guitar tuition and practice. Although natural musical talent varies from person to person everyone benefits from following a clear and structured path where goals are set and the student receives clear guidance on how to achieve those goals. I teach in a friendly, relaxed and patient manner which has developed over the many years experience I have in teaching adults and children from all walks of life and all abilities. I am dedicated, hard-working and I inspire students to achieve their goals. Find out more about me here

Lesson Prices

I teach across the south of England with lessons taking place in my home in Horsham or at the student’s home, depending on the distance. Lessons for new students are currently priced at £20 for 30 minutes and £40 for 60 minutes. Please note that 48 hrs notice is required to cancel or amend lesson times to avoid a charge.

Beginners Guitar Lessons

Beginner guitarists can often be overwhelmed by the amount of information that’s available out there, from youtube lessons to guitar magazine articles, to just trying to copy something a friend has shown you.

I can help demystify all of this by guiding you through the beginning stages.

Beginners guitar lessons focus on the topics below but can be shaped to meet your specific needs.

  • How to tune the guitar
  • Correct right and left hand technique
  • Basic open chords
  • Beginners music theory
  • Beginners guitar grades e.g. Rock School exams – I have found the Rock School series of guitar grades to be of great benefit to beginners and would encourage you to give them a try.
  • Power Chords
  • The pentatonic scale
  • Easy to play repertoire or simplified arrangements of you favourite songs.

Grades Graded exams are not for everyone but even using them as study tools is a great way of focusing your lessons and practice time. Should you wish to take them you will gain a qualification (in some instances you get UCAS points) and they will also come in handy should you wish to apply for music courses in the future. I have a lot of experience in preparing students for exams and will help you maximise your potential come exam day. There are a number of guitar and bass guitar orientated grades that you can study the two most popular being Rockschool and Trinity College London series and I teach both. You can can check out the Rockschool series here and for the Trinity College London series here
